Part 2

“Holidays…Are They Biblical Or Not”

Where did Santa Claus come from and why is he more popular than Christ on Christ’s so-called birthday? His last name Claus is an Old English term meaning the huffed one. The huffed one is the blasphemous one, Satan himself. During Christmas, Santa Claus is known as the gift bringing on December 25th. This is a takeoff of a saint named Nicholas. Saint Nicholas or Bishop of Myra in Lycia; died on the 6th of December, 345 or 352. Though he is one of the most popular saints in the Greek as well as the Latin Church, there is scarcely anything historically certain about him except that he was Bishop of Myra in the fourth century (Kevin Knight). Saint Nicholas is known for giving unwarranted gifts to those that were in need. In my opinion his most popular story is of the three dowerless daughters. It is said that their family was poor and could not afford to marry their daughters off. Saint Nicholas heard of their stories and he rode by their house tossing a bag of gold coins in their window. Legend has it that when he did this, there were stocking hanging in the house and the bag of gold coins landed inside of the stockings. Hint the stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas would soon be there. It is also said that he rode a sleigh pulled by a single reindeer not a group of reindeer flying through the sky. So, due to fact that Santa or Saint Nicholas is the gift bringer, that catapults them ahead of Christ in the popularity contest. This is a tradition of men and what does the Bible has to say about following the tradition of men? Well, let take a look at scripture. Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. To be honest at this point I still have yet to see Christ in this equation.

Santa versus God in life not just doing the Christmas season or a better way of saying it Santa taking the place of God. Most people fail to realize that Santa is actually a false God or a true modern-day idol. Santa claim to be omnipresent, omnipotent as well as omniscience. It is said that he (Santa) keeps a record of all the children in the world good and bad deeds. A quote from the song Santa Claus is coming to town, “he’s making a list he’s checking it twice he’s going to find out whose naughty or nice”. He apparently can see everyone at once “he sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake”. In order to be able to see everyone at the same time he has to be omnipresent. Only God is Omnipresent at least that’s what the word says. Psalm 139:7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in [a]hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. Santa also has a record book of everyone, sounds much like the book of life to me. That makes Santa omniscience and again only God has the Book of life and can blot your name out of it. The Most-High keeps those records. Revelations 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.
