Part 6 “Holidays…Are They Biblical Or Not”
Here are a few verses from Jeremiah 10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: 2 thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good (KJV). In the five accounts listed above none were of Christ and all were traditions of men whereas we are not to follow. According to Jeremiah 10 it is likened to idol worship. A New Testament verse about traditions of men is Colossians 2: 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
The third thing topic up for discussion about Christmas is the date December 25th and if it is in fact the birth date of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All of the researched and videos all agree on one thing and that is the early church did not celebrate Jesus’ birthday, nor was it recorded anywhere in or out of scripture. From all the information, the date of Christ birth is definitely not December 25th. Dates ranging from the spring to the fall are attributed to Christ’s birth, but none was close to December 25th. According to en.144000.net Jesus was born on September 29th. Here are a few facts they listed to support their claim; Fact: Tertullian, (born about 160 A.D.) stated that Augustus began to rule 41 years before the birth of Jesus and died 15 years after that event. Augustus’ died on August 19, 14 A.D., placing Jesus’ birth at 2. B.C. Fact: Tertullian also notes that Jesus was born 28 years after the death of Cleopatra in 30 B.C., which is consistent with a date of 2 B.C. According to www.biblicalarcheaology.org they put Jesus birth in the spring. Here is what he says about the date of Jesus birth. Clement writes: “There are those who have determined not only the year of our Lord’s birth, but also the day; and they say that it took place in the 28th year of Augustus, and in the 25th day of [the Egyptian month] Pachon [May 20 in our calendar] … And treating of His Passion, with very great accuracy, some say that it took place in the 16th year of Tiberius, on the 25th of Phamenoth [March 21]; and others on the 25th of Pharmuthi [April 21] and others say that on the 19th of Pharmuthi [April 15] the Savior suffered. Further, others say that He was born on the 24th or 25th of Pharmuthi [April 20 or 21]. Just these 2 very different calculations about the birth date of Jesus tell says two things. One the date was not recorded in scripture and two God did not want us to know probably for our own good. Therefore, choosing a date to celebrate Christ’s birthday is adding to scripture. Proverbs 3: 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Revelations 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book: If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.
