Part 4

“Holidays…Are They Biblical Or Not”

We tell our children that the Ten Commandments are God’s Laws and we (adults) including the children should follow them. The particular commandment to focus on a bit is the ninth commandment Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor (KJV). We teach our children not to lie and if we catch them in a lie, we will punish them. In the same breath we tell them that an overweight guy who rides a sleigh flown by a group of reindeer is going to land on the roof of the house in the mist of the night, come down a 6-8in. hole in the chimney with a 300lb bag of toys and leave them just what they want as long as they have been good. What a bunch of lying hypocrites we are. That entire story is a big fat lie, pun intended. How do we justify this lie to God? Don’t tell it and you won’t have to justify it. Here is what the Bible says about someone entering your house other than the front door. John 10:1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber (KJV). According to scripture Santa is a thief and a robber, but we already knew that. He robs God of his attributes and steals the hearts of the parents as well as the heart of the children. Exodus 20: 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

When much of this is explained to people, many often say. “God knows my heart, God knows my intentions, or I do it for the children”. Well, whether your intentions are good or bad when God says do not do a particular thing then DON’T DO IT. Example, Only the priest were allowed to touch the Ark of the Covenant. 2 Samuel 6: 6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God. Do you think Uzzah had the best of intentions to keep the Ark of the Covenant from falling to the ground? Of course, he did, but it was against the Most- High’s command, therefore Uzzah died with great intentions in his disobedience. So, how much greater are your intentions than Uzzah’s?
